Preliminary Examination (100 Marks)

  • Duration: 2 hours (120 minutes)
  • Structure:
    • 90 marks: Law + General Knowledge + Aptitude + English
    • 10 marks: Proficiency in the official language (Assamese)

Proficiency in Official Language (10 Marks)

Main Written Examination

The Mains exam comprises 5 papers. The first four are counted for merit; the fifth (language) is qualifying.

Important Notes about Mains

  • The Assamese language paper is qualifying only — you need to get minimum passing marks, but its marks are not added to your total merit score.
  • Candidates must meet minimum qualifying marks in Papers I–IV and aggregate to be eligible for Viva-Voce.

Viva-Voce / Interview (50 Marks)

  • The interview carries 50 marks and is the final stage of selection.
  • It assesses:
    • Legal knowledge & reasoning
    • Communication skills
    • Integrity, temperament, personality
    • General awareness & suitability for judicial service
  • Candidates who perform well in Mains are shortlisted in a fixed ratio (often 1:3) for the interview stage.
