NEW DELHI: Firefighters responding to a blaze at the Lutyens Delhi residence of Delhi High Court Justice Yashwant Varma found no cash at the scene, Delhi Fire Services (DFS) Chief Atul Garg confirmed on Friday.
According to Garg, the DFS control room received a call about the fire at Varma’s residence at 11:35 pm on March 14. Two fire tenders were immediately dispatched and reached the spot at 11:43 pm.
The fire, which broke out in a store room containing stationery and household items, was brought under control within 15 minutes. No casualties were reported.
“Soon after dousing the flames, we informed police about the fire incident. Thereafter, a team of fire department personnel left the spot. Our firefighters did not find any cash during their firefighting operation,” the DFS chief said.
In a related development, the Supreme Court collegium has reportedly initiated a preliminary inquiry against Justice Varma following allegations that a large stash of cash was discovered at his official residence during the fire incident. Reports suggest that the collegium is considering his transfer to the Allahabad High Court.
