Kanimozhi Karunanidhi
Member of Parliament and the DMK’s Parliamentary Party Leader. She previously served as the Deputy Leader of the party in the 17th Lok Sabha. Kanimozhi is the first female Member of Parliament from Thoothukudi in Tamil Nadu, with over two decades of experience in politics. She was nominated as a DMK candidate for the Rajya Sabha in 2007, serving two terms, being re-elected in 2013, and holding key positions such as Chief Whip and Leader of the DMK in the Upper House.
Currently, she chairs the Standing Committee on Consumer Affairs, Food, and Public Distribution and serves as a member of the Committee on Public Undertakings in the 18th Lok Sabha. In the 17th Lok Sabha, Kanimozhi led two Standing Committees: the Standing Committee on Chemicals and Fertilizers and the Standing Committee on Rural Development and Panchayati Raj.
Kanimozhi has served as President of The Hindu Office and National Press Employees’ Union since 2017, becoming the first woman to hold the position. She was re-elected for a second term in 2021 and unanimously for a third term in 2024. She has a Master’s in Economics from Ethiraj College for Women, Chennai. As a poet and writer, she worked as a sub-editor for The Hindu before entering politics. Her literary works have been translated into multiple languages, and she is a published author with notable works including Karuvarai Vaasanai, Agathinai, Paarvaigal, Karukkum Marudhani, and Sigarangalil Uraigirathu Kaalam in Tamil.

Responsibilities
As an intern, you’ll work closely with the parliamentary team to:
– Conduct research and policy analysis, focusing on drafting private member bills, parliamentary questions, and zero-hour questions
– Witness law-making firsthand
– Develop key skills, including communication, advocacy, and leadership abilities
Eligibility
Postgraduate students with a degree in law, public policy, governance, or social sciences are preferred.
